Responsibilities
- Responding to emergencies, administering medications, and coordinating with other staff to ensure inmate health and safety.
- Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history.
- Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, draw blood.
- Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions.
- Aiding in the maintenance of medical equipment and supplies within the facility.
- Completing intake screening.
- Administering and reading PPD tests.
- Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff during medical procedures and transport.
- Observing and reporting changes in patients’ physical or mental health to nurses.
Qualifications
- New grads are encouraged to apply!
- Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a higher-level Paramedic program.
- Ability to obtain the necessary state licenses for EMT or Paramedic.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association required).
- Ability to pass a criminal background check.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information.
- Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
Physical Capabilities
- Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
