Emergency Medical Tech - Full Time - Springfield

Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I's may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required.

Position Details

Full time at Mercy Springfield with 12-hour shifts. Benefit eligible with a sign-on bonus available (restrictions apply).

Requirements

  • EMT license for the state where employed
  • Valid driver’s license
  • At least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles
  • Certifications/Registration: Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire
  • May be required to work differing shifts and schedules

Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements

  • Unimpaired mobility: must be able to respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, and work in close or dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles
  • Able to lift and move equipment and patients with a partner in various environmental conditions
  • Perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR and other medical skills and techniques
  • Correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity for determining skin and blood color, and ability to read medication dosages on labels and syringes
  • Hearing ability to understand information from patients, family, or bystanders; hear breathing sounds and auscultated blood pressure; differentiate conversations in distracting environments; and understand radio traffic with lights and sirens
  • Clear speech and enunciation audible in loud conditions, including stressful situations and communication with patients, families, and emergency services personnel
  • Must successfully pass pre-hire and annual fitness-for-duty tests

  • Approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop-type device
  • Variety of bags and kits
  • Assigned ambulance
  • Computer, FAX, printer, and other office-related equipment

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • ITLS or equivalent training
