About the Role
Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to the goals of Mercy Health System, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-Is may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required.
Responsibilities
- Perform direct patient care, including assessment and evaluation
- Provide basic life support
- Perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required
- Operate Mercy EMS vehicles (must be at least 19 years of age)
- Respond quickly to ambulance calls in various environmental conditions
- Access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, and work in close or dangerous environments
- Carry equipment and patients with a partner
- Perform strenuous physical tasks such as CPR and lifting/moving patients
- Use required medical skills and techniques
- Operate emergency vehicles safely during day and night
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, bystanders, and emergency services personnel
Requirements
- EMT license for the state where employed
- Valid driver’s license
- Hazmat Awareness certification
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification
- NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications (within 90 days of hire)
- Ability to meet physical demands, including passing pre-hire and annual fitness-for-duty tests
- Correctable vision for emergency vehicle operation, including color acuity for assessing skin and blood color
- Ability to hear and understand information in loud or distracting environments, including radio traffic and auscultated sounds
- Clear verbal communication in stressful and loud conditions
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- ITLS or equivalent training

- Monitor/Defibrillator/Pacer
- Approved stretcher, stair chair, backboard, scoop-type device
- Variety of bags and kits
- Assigned ambulance
- Computer, FAX, printer, and other office-related equipment

Schedule
Full-time position with a 48/96-hour schedule. May require working differing shifts.
Pay
Sign-on bonus available. Position is benefit-eligible.
