Emergency Medical Services - Firefighter / Paramedic

About the role

Firefighter/Paramedic’s perform public safety work involving the protection of life and property by fighting fires, responding to emergency incidents, using Emergency Medical Services skills, public education, basic hazardous materials operations, basic technical rescue operations, as well as station and equipment maintenance. This position is responsible for performing related duties as required.

Responsibilities

• Responds to fire and EMS calls with a fire company and performs fire/EMS/rescue duties as assigned or assumed.
• Responds to calls for service as part of an ambulance / EMS crew.
• Rescues and removes person(s) and animals from danger.
• Operates various pieces of fire and EMS apparatus and equipment to deliver advanced life support skills and extinguish fires.
• Ventilates burning buildings to eject smoke, heat, and gases as directed.
• Performs salvage and overhaul operations at fire scenes as directed.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks on department buildings and equipment.
• Performs prevention and education activities as directed, to include fire hydrant maintenance if necessary.
• Performs inspection of fire hose.
• Attends training in subjects pertinent to EMS, firefighting, equipment operation, emergency medical treatment, and other related areas.
• Promotes and conducts public education programs as directed.
• Makes periodic visits to buildings to conduct pre-fire planning.
• Provides Basic and Advanced Life Support care (in compliance with Chapter 401, Florida Statutes, and Chapter 10D-66, F.A.C.) according to the established Hendry County EMS Clinical Guidelines and applicable protocols and standing orders to the person in need of medical attention.
• Administers pre-hospital emergency rescue and medical services, and advanced life support within the scope of training.
• Serves on an ambulance as needed.
• Keeps assigned station clean.
• Completes necessary written reports, including fire, patient reports, patient bills, and daily team and unit reports in a timely, accurate fashion, prior to leaving shift.
• Cleans and maintains ambulance and equipment on a daily basis, including maintaining the required inventory of ambulance supplies and equipment.
• Maintains a professional and safe unit and work area adhering to established safety policies and the image desired for the organization.
• Consistently follows Board policies and procedures.
• Responds productively to change and performs all other tasks as directed.
• Works productively with all personnel throughout the chain of Command.
• Responds to work during a declared state of disaster.

Requirements

• High school diploma or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
• Florida Firefighter II Certificate of compliance required.
• Must possess and maintain current State of Florida EMT-Paramedic.
• 16-hour Emergency Vehicle Operation (EVOC or CEVO).
• Current CPR/AED for Health Care Provider (BLS).
• Current ACLS card.
• Must be approved by the EMS Medical director to practice as a Paramedic prior to being off probation.
• S190, S130, ICS 100, 200, 700, 800.

Work Environment

May be required to work in adverse weather conditions including rain, heat, cold wind, etc. Required to work in conditions with poor lighting and high levels of noise. May be subject to dangerous environments and may be in contact with violent persons and stressful situations.

Schedule

24 hours on, 48 hours off schedule, Sunday through Saturday including holidays. Additional overtime is available.

Pay

Starting range minimum $18.61/hour not including educational incentives, holidays and $10,000 Fire Stipend.
