Position Overview

The Board of Fire Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic. Candidates may also apply for the Firefighter/EMT-B (Basic) position.

Requirements

• At least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age, unless previously a full-time Firefighter in Illinois as noted under state statute (65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.3) by the time of the written examination
• U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Valid State-issued driver’s license
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Certification by the State Fire Marshal’s office as a Firefighter II (Basic) (at time of application)
• Able to speak, read, and write the English language fluently
• Correctable vision and ability to distinguish colors
• Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee

Qualifications for Firefighter/Paramedic

• Valid Paramedic License (EMT-P) issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) (at time of application)

Qualifications for Firefighter/EMT-B (Basic)

• Valid Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT-B) issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) (at time of application)

Additional Information

• Valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test Card) with Ladder Climb (recommended but not required)
• Applications are accepted on an ongoing, rolling basis
• Mandatory online written examination will be scheduled approximately 30 days after application submission

Starting salary: $66,971.00+
