About the role
The Emergency Management Technician I is distinguished by its responsibility to independently perform a variety of moderately difficult subprofessional tasks related to the administrative and operational functions of the Emergency Management Agency.
Responsibilities
- Participates in developing and maintaining functions of emergency operation, management and planning;
- Affords clerical and administrative services support relative to the Emergency Management Agency's managerial, fiscal and personnel functions to include maintaining appropriate records, documents and files;
- Receives and screens incoming calls and refers them to proper staff members;
- Disseminates information and instructions to staff, agencies and the public;
- Assists with the implementation and coordination of the siren maintenance program which includes testing of the warning system in the County with warning points and activation points, including scheduled monthly siren tests and periodic radio tests;
- Serves as agency representative in dealing with the public in matters relating to assigned aspects of the emergency management program and functions;
- Attends and participates in various training sessions, exercises, meetings, conferences and public appearances;
- Affords assistance in the supervision and training of emergency volunteer personnel, registers volunteers and obtains personal history and qualifications background, maintains current roster of volunteers;
- During disaster operations and drills, assists in the activation and staffing of the Emergency Operating Center and assists in the supervision of administrative and clerical work;
- Participates in the supervision and training of emergency volunteer personnel, registers volunteers and obtains personal history and qualifications background, maintains current roster of volunteers;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of progressively responsible clerical work experience, one (1) of which shall have been in support of an emergency management program.
- Licenses: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license (Type 3).
Qualifications
- Knowledge of: Federal and State civil defense laws; basic principles of organization and administration; public relations; governmental organization, operations and functions; report writing; departmental policies and procedures; use of computer hardware and software; standard office equipment.
- Ability to: understand the objectives and functions of Federal, State and local emergency management programs; interpret applicable laws, ordinances and regulations; coordinate the activities of groups of people; coordinate training programs; read and understand written material; speak effectively and maintain cooperative working relationships with members of other agencies; type and operate computers.

Pay
Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range from SR-12C ($3,748) to SR-12E ($4,054) per month.
