About the role
The City of Edmond seeks an Emergency Dispatcher to join their public safety team. This is a Safety Sensitive Position.
Responsibilities
- Receive and respond to both emergency and non-emergency telephone calls
- Direct calls to the appropriate authority for disposition
- Dispatch emergency calls to fire and police responders, or Public Works/Utilities emergency crews
- Maintain various logs
- Use OLETS/NCIC to query and enter data
- Coordinate emergency requests
- Monitor and transmit all radio communications
- Enter information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system
- Call out and notify off-duty personnel, including calling for support resources
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent
- 7 to 11 months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

- Strong customer service, critical thinking, and multi-tasking skills
- Strong level of integrity and honesty
- Advanced computer and typing skills
- Ability to handle high levels of stress while maintaining focus and composure
- Ability to learn and retain information quickly while under stress
- Ability to take initiative and exercise independent judgement
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug and audio screenings
Promotion Opportunities
- Promotion to Emergency Dispatcher II after 2 years of employment with acceptable job performance and completion of required on-the-job training
- Promotion to Shift Supervisor (if available) after 2 years of employment and participation in a competitive selection process
- Potential to be selected as department trainer (CTO) after 2 years of employment and completion of Communications Training Officer Certification Course
