About the role

The Emergency Department Technician is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse. This position supports the Emergency Department by maintaining smooth, effective communication between healthcare practitioners, departments, patients, and visitors, and is accountable for accurate, timely documentation in the patient medical record. The role ensures prompt assistance that contributes to the patient’s progress toward discharge and is responsible for patient admission, transfer, discharge flow processes, and providing basic patient care such as data collection, personal hygiene, vital sign measurement, and assistance with activities of daily living.

Saddleback Medical Center Emergency Department is a cardiac/STEMI and thrombectomy-certified stroke receiving unit serving a diverse community. This position provides patient care in a safe and effective manner within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, assisting with routine and acute care, patient transfer and transport, splint application, wound care, and performing EKG testing under the direction of Registered Nurses.

• Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information in the Emergency Department.
• Safely maintains and competently uses equipment in the delivery of patient care.
• Demonstrates punctuality, adherence to company policies and procedures, and positive, constructive interaction.
• Prioritizes and multitasks effectively.

Qualifications

• One year of experience in an acute care setting preferred.
• One year of acute care experience as a unit secretary, nursing assistant, monitor technician, or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school preferred.
• Basic computer skills preferred.
• Proficient in verbal and written English required.

Education, Licensure, and Certification

• Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) card required.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B) preferred.
