This role administers care to patients and performs various patient care activities and tasks in collaboration with and under the direction of emergency medicine providers and nurses. You will collaborate with other staff members in the performance of duties and comply with all established standards and practices.

The Emergency Department/Trauma Center provides emergency health care for children and adolescents up until their 18th birthday for all types of illnesses and injuries, 24 hours a day. The severity of illness and injury varies and is defined by Triage guidelines as non-urgent, urgent, and emergent. 54% of all inpatient admissions come from the EDTC, which is 17% of all EDTC patients. Collaborative practice protocols help expedite care delivered.

Schedule

One 12-hour shift per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM). During periods of high volume, additional shifts may be required.

Orientation: If hired, attendance will be required the first week at a New Hire Welcome day on Monday from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. There are 3 days of central care partner orientation from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday that first week. Participation in all sessions is preferred, but at minimum, the Thursday session is mandatory.

Requirements

• High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required.
• Successful completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or Paramedic program or course, or graduate of a Medical Assistant Program (Clinical Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant) required.
• 1+ years of experience in Pediatrics, Emergency Department, or Urgent Care preferred.
• Collaborative teamwork skills within an interdisciplinary group focused on patient care.
• Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment.
• Exhibits strong decision-making skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times according to policy, procedure, and HIPAA requirements.
• Demonstrates compassion and patience with a deep level of concern for patients.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
• Must be able to communicate effectively and in a positive manner with patients, family, public, and other health care workers.
• Must be able to cope with stressful situations, including death and dying and dealing with anguished relatives.
• Ability to perform while under stress.
• Ability to follow hospital policies, goals, and procedures.
• Ability to recognize and effectively treat life-threatening conditions.

Certifications/Licenses

One of the following certifications/licenses is required:

• BLS – Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council).
• CMA – Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants).
• EMT – Emergency Medical Technician National (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians).
• LP – Licensed Paramedic National (National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians).
