About the Role
In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors, the Emergency Department Technician provides patient care in an atmosphere sensitive to each person’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. This position works three 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) in the Emergency Department at Mount Carmel St. Ann's, with rotating weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Respond to patient needs in a timely manner.
- Transport and escort patients.
- Perform visual acuity tests, eye irrigations, and equipment setups.
- Perform phlebotomy and obtain lab specimens as ordered.
- Follow appropriate protocols and participate as a team member for trauma, stroke, heart and sepsis alerts, and resuscitation.
- Perform wound care and practice sterile technique when appropriate.
- Perform suture and staple removal, excluding the facial region.
- Perform foley care and collect specimens.
- Perform EKGs.
- Collect and document patient data, such as vital signs, weight, and procedures performed.
- Report observations and condition changes to RN and/or physician in a timely manner (e.g., change in vital signs or symptoms).
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalency.
- Successful completion of an approved course(s) which includes basic patient care skills, EKG, phlebotomy, and BLS certification.
- Previous patient care experience and/or technical education in a health-related field preferred.
- Effective communication skills.
