About the Role
Geisinger offers a per diem ED Tech position with market-leading pay rates, shift differentials up to $3 for evening, nights, and weekend shifts, and up to $40,000 in financial support to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
Responsibilities
- Performs basic patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures.
- Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on the assigned clinical area.
- Promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care.
- Triages patient care by identifying, observing, and documenting the physical needs of patients and families; reports changes in patient condition to the Registered Nurse.
- Assists patient care staff with procedures such as phlebotomy, wound care, splinting, and EKGs.
- Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
- Provides patient care related to rehabilitation to carry out the multidisciplinary care plan for each patient.
- Performs unit desk clerk functions when needed.
- Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician orders.
- Uses two patient identifiers with proper labeling for blood glucose monitoring.
- Assists with transporting patients to and from the department for tests.
- Transports medications to and from the pharmacy, within the unit, and transports blood products to and from the Blood Bank.
- Provides safety and suicide monitoring.
- Assists patients with daily activities, including undressing, dressing, lifting, and positioning for procedures.
- Accesses non-controlled medications storage and supply areas; transports non-controlled medications as necessary.
- Coordinates relations between care providers, patients, and visitors.
- Work is typically performed in a clinical environment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required).
- Basic Life Support Certification.
