Emergency Department Technician

About the role

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for providing support to nursing staff and assisting in the delivery of patient care following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Responsibilities

• Routine patient care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance.
• Collections, records, and reports various patient data.
• Obtains vital signs, blood glucose levels, bedside pregnancy testing, and reports changes in patient data to registered nurse.
• Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or micro collection techniques, and assists nursing staff in collecting specimens from intra-vessel catheters.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Specialized education requirements include:
• Acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or long term care nursing assistant course or completion of a clinical rotation while participating in an accredited nursing program.
• Completion of a medical training in a branch or the armed services.
• Recent patient care experience in acute care setting.
• Medical assistant, EMT, or CNA certification.
• BLS certification.

Preferred

• Emergency Department experience.
• Experience in specimen collection (i.e. phlebotomy), specimen processing and distribution.
