About the role
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, responsible for providing support to nursing staff and assisting in the delivery of patient care following hospital and departmental policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Responsibilities
- Routine patient care services such as call light response; ambulating, transferring, and positioning; personal hygiene assistance.
- Collections, records, and reports various patient data.
- Obtains vital signs, blood glucose levels, bedside pregnancy testing, and reports changes in patient data to registered nurse.
- Obtains blood specimens by venipuncture or micro collection techniques, and assists nursing staff in collecting specimens from intra-vessel catheters.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Specialized education requirements include:
- Acute care nursing assistant course preferred for acute care positions or long term care nursing assistant course or completion of a clinical rotation while participating in an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of a medical training in a branch or the armed services.
- Recent patient care experience in acute care setting.
- Medical assistant, EMT, or CNA certification.
- BLS certification.
Preferred
- Emergency Department experience.
- Experience in specimen collection (i.e. phlebotomy), specimen processing and distribution.
