About the role
Performs clerical and receptionist duties including updating and organizing information, inputting physician orders, and supporting direct patient care under the supervision of the charge nurse. Monitors cardiac telemetry and promptly notifies nursing staff of changes. Communicates clearly with RNs and medical staff.
Responsibilities
- Verify telemetry monitor alarm settings every shift; adjust alarms only with RN direction and verification.
- Perform clerical duties related to patient intake, discharge, and transfer processes.
- Answer telephone, call lights, and EMS radio; take messages and communicate information to the appropriate person.
- Provide general nursing care such as positioning patients, assisting with bedpan, commode, and ambulating patients as delegated.
- Report patient complaints of pain to the supervising RN.
- Fax, scan, and file patient information appropriately; update status board as patient changes occur.
- Help promote an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Maintain a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Attend education in-services and complete online learning modules as assigned.
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
- Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalency required.
- Active Nebraska Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license required.
- Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network).
