Emergency Communications Specialist
About the Role
You Are The First First Responder. THE REALITY OF THIS ROLE You will take calls at 2 a.m. from people in the worst moments of their lives - and you will be the calm they desperately need. You will simultaneously manage multiple active incidents, track officer locations, relay critical information, and make split-second decisions - all without leaving your chair. You won't carry a badge or wear a vest, but the officers, firefighters, and paramedics in the field will depend on you completely. This is not a stepping stone to something else. This is the job - and it takes everything you've got.
About The Role The City of Katy Emergency Communications Center is the nerve center of public safety operations for our community. As an Emergency Communications Specialist, you are the link between a citizen in crisis and the help that saves them. You will handle 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls across Police, Fire, and Medical channels, dispatch personnel using computer-aided dispatch systems, maintain critical data records in local, state, and national systems, and serve as an essential resource after hours for animal control, public works, and parks. This position is designated Critical Personnel. During disasters or catastrophic events, you may be required to remain on duty and perform duties beyond your normal scope to protect the continuity of City operations.
