EMC Laboratory Manger
About the role
The EMC Laboratory Manager oversees all Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) testing operations, ensuring the facility meets both global regulatory requirements and automotive industry standards. This leadership role is responsible for driving operational efficiency, maintaining laboratory accreditations, and leading complex infrastructure projects like chamber construction and equipment upgrades.
Responsibilities
- Manager responsible for laboratory operations.
- Plan, direct and coordinate the day-to-day operations of a company division that provides testing services to industry standards.
- Full supervisory responsibility of both direct and indirect reports (hiring: interviewing, selection; planning work, scheduling, performance evaluations, performance management)
- Ensure delivery of testing services that meet client’s requirements in accordance with SGS quality system
- Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and optimization of all RF measurement equipment (spectrum analyzers, receivers, amplifiers).
- Lead Capital Expenditure (CapEx) planning, tracking, and execution for laboratory upgrades.
- Experience on common radio product standards for unlicensed (FCC Part 15C&E) and license (FCC Parts 22/24/27) radios
- Act as the ultimate technical authority on global commercial regulations (FCC, ISED, CE/RED) and automotive OEM validation standards (CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637).
- Ensure continuous compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation requirements.
- Lead internal preparation and represent the facility during external audits.
- Partner with key automotive clients and OEMs to review test plans, troubleshoot non-compliance issues, and deliver highly technical engineering feedback.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, RF/Microwave Electronics, Physics, or a closely related technical field.
- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in EMC testing and compliance, with at least 5 years in a dedicated managerial or supervisory role within an accredited laboratory environment.
- Demonstrated experience on both commercial regulatory certification and automotive-specific OEM standards.
- Active participation or membership in international EMC or automotive standardization committees(IEEE, SAE, CISPR)
- Knowledge of regulatory and automotive standards (ISO/IEC 17025, CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637)
- Strong leadership background and must know how to handle problems quickly and efficiently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good team spirit and adaptability.
- High level of accuracy and good presentation skills.
- Able to work effectively as a team leader.
- Able to priorities workload and meet deadlines.
- Able to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment, able to deal with ambiguity.
- Able to work on multiple tasks at the same time and prioritize them accordingly.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory and automotive standards (ISO/IEC 17025, CISPR 25, ISO 11452, ISO 7637)
- Strong communications skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and clients.
- Travel 30% of the time to other SGS EMC labs, customer visits, OEM alignment meetings, vendors, etc..
Additional Information
Compensation: The expected salary for this position is $106,000 to 142,000 per year base. This range represents the minimum and maximum base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role.
