Embedded Software Engineer II, Autonomy Platform, Data and Tools
We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to join our Platform, Data and Tools team within the Amazon Robotics Autonomous Mobility group. This team develops the autonomy software powering Proteus, Amazon’s first fully autonomous warehouse robot.
About the role
You will build the platform and architecture for onboard mapping, perception, motion planning, and control software. You will also collaborate with engineers and scientists across the team to develop and enhance our ML training and deployment pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Optimize runtime performance of core algorithms by exploiting underlying hardware acceleration capabilities
- Integrate new sensors and hardware components into the autonomy software stack
- Develop and customize our Nvidia Jetpack–based platform and OS
- Develop software to enable remote diagnostics, recovery, and control of autonomous robots
- Design and develop software interfaces to enable hardware testing and manufacturing processes
- Develop embedded middleware to accelerate the development of other engineering teams
- Mentor other engineers
Qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 3+ years of programming with at least one software programming language
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
- Experience in embedded development in C/C++
Skills
- CUDA kernels or ML/low-level kernels
- Full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
- AWS platform, web services, or related technologies
- Custom distributions using tools such as Yocto or Buildroot
- Robotics middleware (ROS/ROS2) or visualization tools (Foxglove, RViz)

Pay
Base salary range: $143,700 – $194,400 USD annually for this position in North Reading, MA, USA.
