Embedded Linux Software Engineer

About the role
Design and write embedded software for our Linux-based dental imaging and CAD/CAM systems. You will develop prototypes, integrate new hardware, and ensure compliance with industry standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
- Design and write embedded software code according to prescribed specifications
- Write code for Linux-based application processors including peripheral drivers
- Become familiar with Planmeca's scanning technologies and software applications
- Develop prototypes to validate suitability of new hardware, firmware, and software
- Implement embedded systems and interpret error reports
- Develop embedded software for functional test equipment for manufacturing
- Test software for scalability and structure
- Fix bugs and optimize system performance
- Support manufacturing and technical support groups to sustain production and resolve field issues
- Collaborate with the development team to integrate new hardware into existing applications
- Meet company standards for quantity and quality of work, adhering to all policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, or relevant industry experience
- Experience developing Linux kernel and user-space applications
- Familiarity with managing custom Linux kernel builds (Yocto, BitBake, etc.)
- Ability to read electronic schematics
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with engineering disciplines, managers, manufacturing, and support personnel
- Experience working effectively on project teams, including cross-functional personnel
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing products with international agency compliance (FCC, UL, RoHS)
- Familiarity with motion controllers, DC/AC motor drive circuitry, and CCD cameras
