About the Role

Provides services to assist students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and improving academic capabilities in designated areas. Collaborates with the school principal and staff members to assess students' needs and how best to address them.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches students academic, social, and motor skills in public schools
  • Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school
  • Lectures, demonstrates, and uses audiovisual teaching aids and best practices to present subject matter to class
  • Prepares, administers, and corrects tests, and records results
  • Assigns lessons, corrects papers, and hears oral presentations
  • Teaches behavioral expectations
  • Develops a behavioral plan and maintains order in classroom, on playground and throughout the campus
  • Counsels students when adjustment and academic problems arise
  • Discusses students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents
  • Keeps attendance and grade records as required by school
  • May coordinate class field trips
  • May teach combined or combination or inclusion classes
  • May specialize by subject taught, such as math, science, or social studies, music, etc.
  • Engages in on-going professional development
  • Works cooperatively with colleagues and in the school's learning community
  • Performs other duties as required

Requirements

  • State certification in Elementary (license code 025) and designated as "highly qualified"

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, etc.
  • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle
  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree

  • Interpersonal Communication: Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including giving instructions, assignments, or directions
  • Language Ability: Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, strategic plans, etc., and to prepare them using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to speak before groups with poise, voice control, and confidence
  • Intelligence: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Verbal Aptitude: Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in standard English
  • Numerical Aptitude: Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; add, subtract, multiply, and divide; use decimals and percentages; and apply principles of algebra, descriptive statistics, and statistical inference
  • Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape
  • Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools, with minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination
  • Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions, adapt to performing under stress, and handle emergency situations
  • Physical Communication: Ability to talk and hear, including expressing ideas by spoken words and perceiving sounds by ear. Must be able to communicate via telephone

Schedule

Full-time for ten (10) months

Pay

Salary based on state and local salary schedules
