The Opportunity

The Physical Education Teacher will provide high-quality instruction in a small school environment, fostering a culture of high expectations and collaboration with colleagues. This role contributes to Aspire's goal of ensuring every student in California has access to a high-quality public education.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes shared belief in every student attending college
  • Develop and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines
  • Assess students regularly and refine instruction based on assessment data and student needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school
  • Communicate regularly with students and families about classroom activities and student progress
  • Involvement in parent and guardian partnerships in their students' education
  • Manage student behavior to ensure full engagement
  • Participate in professional development activities and work closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to address them
  • Demonstrate knowledge and support of Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
  • Knowledge of subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks
  • Ability and willingness to implement Aspire Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
  • Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community
  • Minimum educational level: Bachelor’s degree
  • Licensing Requirements: Single subject: physical education authorization, including English learner authorization, required
  • Experience: 1+ year working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred

Physical Demands

  • Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull
  • Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
  • Repetitive use of hands (fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
  • Sitting, walking or standing for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, operate standard office equipment, and use a telephone
  • See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids
  • Distinguish colors
  • Read and understand rules and policies, labels, and instructions
  • Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone
  • Verbal communications, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone
  • Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time
  • Work Environment: Indoor and outdoor environments
  • Exposure to dust, oils, and cleaning chemicals
  • Some exposure to childhood and other diseases in a school environment
  • May be required to work outside of normal workdays and office hours to meet operational deadlines
