About the role

The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fourth-largest school district in California, covering 320 square miles in southern Sacramento County. Responsibilities

• Plan, implement, monitor, and assess a classroom instructional program consistent with District and Board goals, site goals, and student needs.
• Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music using the Board-adopted course of study and other appropriate learning activities.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter as specified in state law and district administrative regulations.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere; support and assist in maintaining district and site discipline policies.
• Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff to assess and address health, emotional, social, and learning problems.
• Participate in curricular and extracurricular school programs, assessment and development activities, student supervision, and staff, parent, department, and District meetings.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding instructional goals, student progress, needs, problems, and accomplishments.
• Develop and communicate curricular and instructional plans and objectives to students and parents, including course descriptions, performance expectations, and other pertinent information.
• Assess student progress and communicate progress to parents at each grading period and in cases of unsatisfactory work or instructional issues.
• Represent the District and assigned school or program to local and State groups, maintaining a positive and professional image; interact with outside agencies as necessary.
• Provide instruction to students with special needs in accordance with IEPs, utilizing support services as appropriate; participate in IEP meetings as appropriate.
• Maintain student records, including special education students, in accordance with site and District policy; prepare required reports.
• Develop lesson plans in accordance with site and District policy; create specific plans for substitutes as necessary.

Requirements

• Valid California Teaching Credential.
• Valid multiple subject credential.
• English Learner Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD/EL/ELA/SDAIE or equivalent).

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to: bachelor's degree, including courses needed to meet credential requirements and student teaching classroom experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of principles, theories, practices, methods, and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction.
• Knowledge of classroom procedures that promote appropriate student conduct and motivation for learning.
• Knowledge of child guidance principles and practices.
• Knowledge of applicable sections of the State Education Code and other applicable laws.
• Ability to adapt plans to meet different student needs and create an instructional program and class environment favorable to learning and personal growth.
• Ability to establish effective rapport with pupils and motivate them to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge for elementary education.
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with pupils, parents, colleagues, and supervising staff.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Ability to maintain acceptable standards of physical health, energy, and emotional adjustment to the job environment.
• First aid and CPR certification.
• Awareness of current trends and research concerning child growth and development.
