About the role

The Discovery School is a private, non-profit school offering a unique educational experience through a gradual curriculum evolution. It serves children from 18-months to eighth grade, blending Montessori, IB-PYP, and IB-MYP programs. The school emphasizes exploration, risk-taking, peace-making, resourcefulness, perseverance, leadership, responsibility, and global citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and promote the school’s mission, vision, core values, and policies.
  • Implement the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP).
  • Support children's individual needs through classroom-based assessments.
  • Evaluate the program to ensure social, emotional, and academic needs are met.
  • Implement best practices based on current research in education.
  • Create an environment that supports cognitive, emotional, social, physical, and spiritual growth.
  • Develop integrated units of inquiry and instruction that meet both group and individual needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing dialogue with the PYP Coordinator and specialty teachers.
  • Work with students of various abilities, including those with learning differences.
  • Use various assessment tools to support instructional decisions.
  • Create a peaceful environment and maintain a clean, orderly, and attractive classroom.
  • Communicate needs for the classroom in accordance with school policy.
  • Model and teach conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies.
  • Promote an understanding and appreciation of all cultures.
  • Report discipline concerns to the IB Coordinator and/or Director.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children during and after school hours.
  • Communicate with parents regarding their child's specific needs.
  • Execute on PREP and communicate about the classroom and curriculum.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, Masters's degree in education a bonus but not required.
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience with IB and/or progressive learning approaches.
  • Comfortable with integration of technology as a learning tool.
  • Deep capability to engage in differentiated instruction strategies.
  • Exceptionally strong spoken and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adept at communicating Discovery’s story to various constituencies.
