Elem Learning Specialist, Resource Rm., (.5 FTE), Perm

Part-time (.5 FTE), permanent position for the 2026-2027 school year. Special Education endorsement required.

About the Role

The Learning Specialist is primarily responsible for effective teaching and learning of the assigned subject(s) following district-approved curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices. This role may teach in a variety of elementary and/or secondary educational settings, including but not limited to life skills (Structured Learning Center-Academics), behavior development (Structured Learning Center-Behavior), communications, and learning Resource/Support.

Primary responsibilities include ensuring student safety and fostering an environment conducive to learning through appropriate collaboration, guidance, discipline, and attention to each student's readiness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assess student special needs and translate them into effective instructional plans.
• Communicate individual development plans and coach/support staff and colleagues in implementing their responsibilities under the plan.
• Apply knowledge of IDEA requirements and procedures in a special education environment.
• Use appropriate and multiple assessment, instruction, and evaluation techniques.
• Manage classroom behavior and maintain acceptable student conduct.
• Collaborate within a professional learning community.
• Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff verbally and in writing.
• Apply knowledge of child and adolescent development to curriculum and instructional practices.
• Engage in culturally responsive teaching and learning.

Requirements

• Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Oregon Teaching License with a Special Education: Generalist endorsement.
• Successful completion of a teacher certification program at an accredited college or university.
• Experience working successfully with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to engaging a diverse community.
• Successful teaching experience or demonstrated potential in a special education environment.
• Analytical and diagnostic skills to assess student needs.
• Ability to apply knowledge of child and adolescent development in instructional practices.

Pay

Annual Salary Range (2025-2026): $58,788 - $111,463 (193-Day Contract) for 1.0 FTE. This position is .5 FTE, so the actual salary will be prorated based on FTE and start date.

Additional stipends:

• $5,673 annual Extended Responsibilities Special Education Stipend (prorated based on FTE and start/end dates).
• $2,500 stipend if certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).
• $3,000 stipend if you hold a PhD or EdD.

The district participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP). Upon eligibility (working at least six full calendar months in a qualifying position), the employee contributes 6% via payroll deduction. Part-time employees working at least six months and 600 hours in a calendar year will qualify.
