About the role
The Electrophysiology Care Coordinator RN serves as a central point of medical care and coordination for patients in the EP clinic. This role manages clinical questions and issues from patients, performs cardiac device interrogations, supports device clinic, oversees scheduling procedures (including prior authorizations), optimizes clinic and procedural schedules, manages EP-related in-basket communication, relays results, and coordinates care across multiple sites, including Saint Joseph Health and MIDC.
Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact with patients to triage clinical questions/issues; answer questions and implement clinical management within scope of practice/protocol-driven care.
- Monitor antiarrhythmic clinic patients through remote surveillance, including placing orders for and reviewing routine laboratory testing and periodic electrocardiograms per protocol.
- Oversee scheduling of EP procedures, diagnostic studies, and follow-up visits in alignment with provider availability and procedural capacity. Coordinate procedural logistics between the EP clinic, Saint Joseph Health, and MIDC.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for patients before and after EP procedures, providing timely communication regarding procedure preparation, expectations, and follow-up care.
- Track prior authorizations for EP procedures, imaging, and related services; troubleshoot issues in real-time to avoid procedural delays/cancellations. Proactively identify authorization barriers and communicate with payers to obtain approvals.
- Actively manage and optimize EP clinic and procedural schedules to maximize utilization and access. Coordinate with providers, nursing, and procedural teams to ensure readiness for scheduled cases.
- Monitor EP in-basket messages to assess and triage patient-reported symptoms, respond to non-clinical inquiries, and escalate clinical concerns to providers and ancillary teams.
- Ensure timely follow-through on patient messages, test results, and care coordination needs.
- Facilitate clear communication across organizations to support safe, efficient procedural care.
- Provide education to patients and families regarding EP procedures, testing, and care pathways.
- Assist with coordinating anticoagulation holds for patients managed through the Anticoagulation Clinic who require procedures with other providers.
- Perform daily review of pacemaker alerts, assess for abnormal findings, and escalate to the provider to guide subsequent patient management (after formal training and competency validation).
- Coordinate one-week post-pacemaker implant wound assessments, applying nursing expertise to evaluate healing and identify potential issues.
- Assist with placing orders for LifeVest devices and managing patient monitoring alerts as notified by the device company.
Requirements
- Completion of accredited Nursing school.
- Valid RN license in the State of Colorado.
- Minimum of 2 years of Cardiology, ICU/CCU, or Specialty Clinic experience required.
- Experience with procedure scheduling, prior authorizations, and payer communication preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) & Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
- Cardiac Device Specialist certification preferred.
