About the role

Nauticus, a maritime discovery center in downtown Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking a skilled and experienced Electronics Technician II. The technician will repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and install electronic equipment and systems used throughout the museum, Battleship Wisconsin, sailing center, and Schooner Virginia.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, preventive maintenance, and installation of electronic equipment by interpreting technical manuals and documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment issues using schematics and diagnostic tools, and recommend replacement parts or upgrades.
  • Install electronic components, replacement parts, and system upgrades.
  • Gather technical data and system information to support maintenance records, reports, and operational decisions.
  • Provide supervisory support, including task coordination, workflow oversight, and mentoring of junior personnel.
  • Operate and maintain audio and video equipment, serving as operator and trainer for presentations and events.
  • Use appropriate tools, test equipment, and reference materials to install components and systems, providing progress reports as required.
  • Collect diagnostic information on failed electronics, contacting manufacturers and vendors to determine repair options and technical solutions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent; additional vocational, technical, or associate‑level training preferred.
  • Two years of experience in electronics or as an Electronics Technician.
  • Knowledge obtained through six months to one year of advanced study or training beyond high‑school equivalency (junior college, vocational, technical, or correspondence schools).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Work location: One Waterside Drive, Norfolk, VA 23510.
  • Work hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with additional holiday, night, and as‑needed operational support.

Pay

The departmental hiring range for this position is $53,654.39 – $61,569.65 annually.

Schedule

Regular schedule is Wednesday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with required availability for holidays, nights, and operational needs.
