About the role

You will serve as a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN in the SONAR BRANCH (CODE 292), COMBAT SYSTEMS DIVISION, ENGINEERING and PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate project objectives, perform complex engineering calculations and identify most economical and efficient procedures for performance verification.
  • Prepare and review correspondence, such as job summaries, task group instructions (TGIs), deficiency logs (DLs), deficiency Reports (DRs), technical reports, estimates, status reports, instructions and procedures.
  • Provide sequence of work and manning requirement information to project and department managers.
  • Prepare scheduling documents, status reports, milestone charts, "game plans”, estimates and other management documents for assigned systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Must meet time-in-grade requirements.
  • May be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
  • May require overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours.
  • May require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites.
  • Must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

  • At least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience directing and planning, installation, and testing of equipment and systems involved during a ship's overhaul period.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing correspondence, such as Job Summaries, Task Group Instruments (TGIs).
  • Experience administering Deficiency Logs (DL's), Deficiency Reports (DR's), technical reports, estimates, status reports, instructions and procedures.
  • Experience negotiating projects with managers and ship force support to gain approval and testing authority.
