About the role

This position is located within the Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) Service at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. The incumbent supports the management, maintenance, and lifecycle support of medical and electronic equipment essential to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical data to procurement personnel in their negotiation of service contracts.
  • Initiates actions to have changes and modifications to contracts based upon new or revised workload program requirements.
  • Reviews trade publications and other electronic equipment literature to stay informed of changing technology.
  • Attends meetings and conferences as required to present data and assure that assigned equipment is maintained and updated.
  • Furnishes technical data for inclusion in briefings and reports to higher headquarters.
  • Advises engineers regarding the feasibility of utilizing test equipment to meet specific testing requirements or determines whether modifications are necessary.
  • Analyzes technical equipment data to determine the feasibility of developing or modifying existing equipment.
  • Prepares schematics and specifications for the construction of interface devices, etc. if existing equipment requires modifications.
  • Conducts tests of devices, adjusting as necessary, to ensure testing requirements are met.
  • Tests and evaluates for electromagnetic characteristics and performance in a varied spectrum environment.
  • Studies engineering specifications, manufacturers' manuals and observation of equipment.
  • Examines equipment in shop areas to determine design, testing capability and the operational characteristics to help determine the range and quantity of parts required to support the equipment.
  • Determines availability of items through procurement.
  • Prepares descriptions of requirements for use of technical procurement staff in negotiating contracts.
  • Research technical brochures and contractor supplied data to determine the requirements for parts for specialized test equipment.
  • Helps ensure that technical specification data including "sole source" justification when required is included. Initiates action for the construction of repair parts.
  • Furnishes specification data for parts to be fabricated by shop personnel.
  • Participates with engineering staff in assigned portions of projects related in end service maintenance of electronic automated test equipment in support of maintenance, repair, and overhaul of electronic equipment and systems.
  • Gathers and researches technical data and information on unusual design characteristics and analyzes the data to determine applicability to design problems.
  • Promotes technical data to senior management for approval.

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade.
