Electronics/RF Fuze Systems Engineer - Advanced Programs

On-siteQuality AssuranceFull-time

About the role

Serves as AMTEC's electronics system engineering representative across all program forums, including fuze board reviews, vendor design reviews, and government technical interchange meetings. Acts as the primary point of contact for electronics fuze matters within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Completes DEVCOM sponsored formal training and qualification for electronics fuze board level testing.
  • Develops proficiency in test methods, acceptance criteria, and diagnostic techniques for electronic fuze assemblies.
  • Applies acquired knowledge to establish and sustain electronics fuze test and evaluation capabilities at AMTEC.
  • Travel to Picatinny Arsenal, NJ, and other DEVCOM sites is required; training may involve multiple multiday sessions per year.
  • Performs and oversees testing of electronic fuze assemblies in support of a USG production program for a government designed proximity fuze, including board level functional testing, RF performance verification, power source characterization, detection sensitivity, environmental screening and qualification testing, and acceptance testing per government defined procedures.
  • Works directly with production personnel to execute test procedures, interpret results, troubleshoot failures, and disposition nonconforming hardware.
  • Leads the electronics system engineering portion of R&D efforts to adapt and integrate an existing government electronic fuze design for a new application.
  • Owns system level electronics performance and is responsible for obtaining the necessary technical information from vendors, USG engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful integration.
  • Performs testing of vendor delivered fuze assemblies as required to evaluate design changes and support qualification of modifications.
  • Conducts trade studies, risk reduction testing, and design reviews for electronic fuze integration into new weapon system platforms.
  • Leads initial standup of electronics test and production capabilities for government designed fuze assemblies, including specification and procurement of test equipment, setup of functional test stations and environmental screening configurations, development of acceptance test procedures, and creation of process documentation.
  • Sustains these capabilities through ongoing coordination with production personnel.
  • Covers technical deficiencies in vendor deliverables and test results, supports root cause investigations, and drives corrective actions in coordination with vendors, DEVCOM, and internal engineering teams.
  • Contributes to fuze safety assessments and ensures compliance with applicable safety design principles in coordination with engineering and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains program documentation including vendor interface control documents, system specifications, test plans, test reports, and technical data packages.
  • Participates in prototype builds, integration activities, and live fire and range testing events.

    Requirements

    • Strong applied foundation in electrical engineering including circuit analysis, analog and digital electronics, and RF fundamentals.
    • Hands on experience with electronic test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators.
    • Ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate electronic schematics, block diagrams, and interface control documents.
    • Practical understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC/EMI) concepts and environmental factors that affect electronic system performance.
    • Ability to interpret test data, identify anomalies, troubleshoot failures, and make informed accept/reject decisions on electronic hardware.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts across disciplines to vendors, engineering peers, production staff, and government customers.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary team environments, coordinating across multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
    • Self starter with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks and meet program milestones in a dynamic, small team environment.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
    • Ability to work under limited supervision while exercising responsibility for meeting technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
    • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field (RF, Microwave Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or Electronics preferred).
    • 3+ years in electronics engineering, electronics test engineering, or a related field.
    • Defense industry experience is a plus but not required.
    • Candidate should possess a strong applied foundation in electrical engineering including RF principles, analog and digital electronics, and electronics testing and troubleshooting.
    • USG/DEVCOM will provide formal training on fuze specific test and evaluation methods.
    • Citizenship U.S. Citizenship required.
    • This position may require a U.S. Security Clearance.
