About the role
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is seeking a Traffic Signal Technician for their Region Two team. This role involves installing, programming, and maintaining advanced traffic infrastructure, responding to field reports, verifying installations meet safety regulations, driving and operating bucket trucks, and being on-call for emergency response.
Responsibilities
- Install, program, and maintain traffic signals, radar/lidar detection systems, school flashers, and highway lighting.
- Respond to field reports to diagnose and repair malfunctioning equipment in real-time.
- Verify that new and existing installations meet strict safety regulations and technical standards.
- Drive and operate bucket trucks and utilize high-tech calibration tools.
- Work after hours on a regular basis for emergency response.
Requirements
- Proximity: Must be able to report to the Region Two office (SLC) within 30 minutes.
- Experience: At least 2 years of professional electrical/electronics experience or related education (or a combination of both).
- Certification: IMSA Level II certification (or the ability to earn it within 1 year).
- Training: Complete the UDOT Traffic Signal and ITS Training within six months of hire.
- Tech Savvy: Proficiency with computers and a solid understanding of traffic signal technology and construction.
- Driver’s License: A valid Utah license.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate’s degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred, but not required.
- Experience: Less than 2 years of electrical experience/education and without an IMSA Level II certification can apply for the Electronic Technical Specialist position.
- Preferences: An Associate’s degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Technology, a Journeyman Electrical License, IMSA Level II or higher certification, and 4+ years of combined education and field experience.

Salary – $22.66 - $30.31 Hourly Wage
