Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic (6 Month Register).

Responsibilities

• Performs preliminary inspection, overhaul/repair, retrofitting, modification, and complete final operational testing and calibration of Industrial Plant Equipment (IPE) in a developmental capacity (at WG-08 or WG-11 level).
• Diagnoses and localizes problems to specific electronic, electrical, optical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical malfunctions.
• Localizes, isolates, and repairs or replaces faulty electronic modules and components using schematics, logic diagrams, technical instructions, logic testing equipment, manual data input, and computer-stored program procedures.
• Performs testing, rewiring, repairing, overhauling, tracing, and troubleshooting of electrical circuits; replaces control units, electrical panels, fuses, and switches.
• Tests overall Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) system operation by using data input in all modes to ensure proper machine response and accuracy.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Appointment is subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
• Must meet non-critical sensitive security requirements with Secret Access.
• Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non-Exempt.
• Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license/certification to operate government vehicles.
• Pre-employment physical is required.
• Selectees must have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.

Qualifications

To qualify, your resume and supporting documentation must demonstrate the following:

• Ability to Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element).
• Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc., and Troubleshooting (Electronic Equipment).
• Theory of Electronics.
• Ability to Use Hand and Power Tools - Electronics and Use of Test Equipment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training.

Physical Effort

• Work requires standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, and sitting for extended periods in cramped or awkward positions.
• Lifts and carries items weighing 10 to 40 pounds; occasionally objects exceeding 40 pounds.
• Requires moderate physical effort, fine finger dexterity, and close visual attention.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed under shop conditions in an adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated warehouse.
• Subject to loud noises, heat, cold, fumes, dirt, grease, and hazards such as cuts, bruises, electrical shock, burns, injury from moving machinery, and falls from heights.
• Occasionally required to work in other buildings exposed to noises, fumes, dust, and grease.
• Travel to other sites is required approximately 50% of the time.
