Responsibilities
- Retrieves and/or creates patients’ electronic folders and physical radiology jackets.
- Accesses reports and other patient or exam data via the Novius, SMS, Epic, PACS and related software systems.
- Utilizes the electronic medical record to access patient consent forms for authorization of release.
- Safeguards all patient information and is in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
- Communicates reports and/or image data to the appropriate physician’s office in a timely manner.
- Receives release of information request which will be scanned into EMR. Verifies patient has current medical record number and enters release information into template.
- Prints and packages images via PACS film and or CD for distribution and delivery to patients as well as outside physicians’ offices, utilizing proper quality assurance measures.
- Verifies patients in PACS and/or creates images media for clinics, conferences, physicians, studies, reading room, operating room and Radiology Schedule.
- Affords assistance to the radiologist, other physicians and staff in the execution of their duties by acting as a resource person for timely, effective use of services, both in electronic and manual modalities.
- Provides PACS web support for viewing images and manipulating images for conferences and surgery.
- Provides Operating Room support for physicians as needed on fixed and mobile PACS equipment.
- Troubleshoots, resolves, and documents, exam problems, and service calls in order to meet established turnaround times of exam availability.
- Troubleshoots and reports all deficiencies of hardware and software programs in the RIC.
- Maintains a patient-centered focus and strives to support the mission, goals and values of the hospital, department and division.
- Maintains professionalism with all customers to promote a customer service-driven environment.
- Maintains department, off-site storage, image media, and the RIC storage requirements.
- Maintains and monitors the return of outside patient films and image media.
- Receives external films/CD to be entered into PACS for record keeping/comparison.
- Creates patients in EMR, if necessary.
- Creates new orders in EPIC for outside film entry via ancillary orders.
- Enters images into PACS according to order created.
- Sends and receives patient imaging records via the cloud.
- Purge film and/or images on an on-going basis and/or as described by the record retention policy.
- This will include on-site purging at the facility where film is maintained as well as preparation for the purge process.
- Scans documents into EMR as needed.
- Digitizes images into PACS.
- Utilizes the Exam Manger function of PACS to correctly identify images and patient information in PACS for the department and the facility.
- Process all legal requests/subpoenas received in the imaging department.
- When necessary, may be requested to attend court proceeding as a custodian of the imaging records.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate
- Preferred: Associates Degree and/or 30 hours of basic college work
