Project/Unit Description

The Applied Embedded Systems (AES) Division in the Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a RF/Radar Systems Engineer. AES focuses on embedded electronic and electromechanical systems for fields like Electronic Warfare, command and control, communications, avionics, entertainment, and health monitoring.

Job Purpose

The Electronics Hardware Engineer develops mixed-signal design solutions including analog, RF, and digital portions for various systems. Responsibilities include RF and analog development, digital system design, and integration with other system components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop requirements for RF, analog, or digital systems
  • Perform complex RF, analog, or digital circuit design
  • Design and simulate circuits using system, circuit, or board design tools
  • Create documentation of hardware design and theory of operation
  • Conduct and supervise lab testing activities
  • Integrate modules with other system components
  • Provide significant contributions to technical reports and presentations
  • Lead small teams performing RF, analog, or digital circuit design
  • Contribute to white papers and competitive proposals

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with printed circuit board (PCB) layout
  • Knowledge of best practices for embedded systems design
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit analysis and synthesis
  • Experience with object-oriented software design, implementation, and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience with Altium Designer for PCB design
  • Experience with lab testing equipment such as logic analyzers, multimeters, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience with Analog-to-Digital (ADC) and Digital-to-Analog (DAC) Converters
  • Experience with complex mixed-domain circuit board design (RF, Digital, Analog)
  • Experience with DDR4 memory, multi-gigabit speeds, and 5GHz and higher radio frequencies

Education and Length of Experience

  • 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Physics, or a STEM-related field of study
  • 3 years of related experience with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Physics, or a STEM-related field of study
  • 0 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Computer Science, Physics, or a STEM-related field of study

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. citizens. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
