Electronic Design Engineer
Intelligent Manufacturing Solutions (IMS) upholds the value of manufacturing by supporting new technologies and sustaining acquired products for mission-critical industries. We deliver high-quality solutions through innovation, precision, and integrity, ensuring continuity and confidence in electronics and defense product assemblies. This role is pivotal in providing design excellence for older technologies, where customers rely on our product solutions.
About the role
Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates electronic parts, components, or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, hardware systems, or electrical engineering applications. Determines design approaches and parameters, analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests, and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.
Complexity & Problem Solving
- Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
- Devises solutions based on limited information and precedents, adapting existing approaches.
- Uses evaluation, judgment, and interpretation to select the right course of action; work is reviewed at critical points.
- Handles complex issues requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors and determines methods for new assignments.
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods, evaluating and adapting techniques, and setting criteria for results.
- May manage significant issues where analysis involves intangibles and requires conceptual thinking.
- Accountable for results that may impact the entire function.
Collaboration & Interaction
- Enhances relationships with senior internal/external partners, often requiring persuasion on unfamiliar subject matter.
- Adapts communication style to differing audiences and advises others on difficult matters.
- Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise and persuades diverse stakeholders.
- May direct the activities of others and is accountable for tactical business targets.
- Creates formal networks involving coordination among groups and provides thought leadership on broader projects.
- Recognized internally as a subject matter expert.
Responsibilities
- Provides mastery-level electrical engineering expertise to a team.
- Oversees all electrical engineering aspects of product development, including:
- System and module level design definition
- Schematic capture, circuit design, analysis, and simulation
- Generation of product test procedures
- Participates in hardware design reviews and Design Verification Testing.
- Participates in failure analysis and root cause corrective action.
- Supports working group meetings with customers and internal teams.
- Identifies, mitigates, and closes program risks, with a focus on supply chain risks.
- Resolves technical issues and anomalies, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Collaborates with cross-discipline teams (systems, mechanical, structural, thermal, power, optical) in development, integration, and execution.
- Delivers products and services that meet cost, quality, and time expectations.
- Ensures internal processes produce products that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5–8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years with a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
- Proficient with standard engineering software.
