Electrochemistry Modeling Intern
About the Role
Bosch Research is seeking an intern in electrochemical modelling technologies. The goal is to enable improved Bosch products through a deep understanding of thermodynamic, kinetic, and transport phenomena at the mesoscale level using computational tools. The intern will contribute to modeling degradation mechanisms in proton-exchange-membrane electrolyzers, specifically predicting the aging kinetics of iridium in the Anode catalyst layer under various operating conditions.
As part of Bosch Corporate Research, this role focuses on long-term fundamental investigations of transformative energy technologies. The modeling team supports global experimental efforts with fundamental understanding, emphasizing innovation and high technological impact. The team collaborates with leading computational and experimental groups, including top universities, national labs, and industrial partners, and encourages high-impact publications and patent applications.
Responsibilities
- Develop and apply computational methods to model degradation mechanisms in proton-exchange-membrane electrolyzers.
- Predict aging kinetics for iridium in the Anode catalyst layer under various operating conditions.
- Collaborate with a global network of computational and experimental teams to support fundamental research in energy technologies.
- Contribute to high-impact publications and patent applications.
Requirements
- Pursuing a graduate degree at a top university in applied mathematics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Strong foundation in computation and mathematics, with a focus on electrochemistry, heat transfer, mass transfer, and chemical kinetics.
- Attention to detail, flexibility, creativity, excellent communication, and teamwork skills.
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Significant research and/or coding experience, preferably with fluency in Python.
- Experience building electrochemical models of complex systems, including interface kinetics, diffusion, and phase change.
- Knowledge of PEM electrolysis electrochemistry is highly desirable.
Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this intern position is $41.00/hr - $55.00/hr. Individual pay is determined based on factors such as type of degree, work experience, job knowledge, complexity of the role, and job location.
