Electro Crane Manager

Essential Duties

  • Ensures that the electro-mechanical maintenance and repair of cranes are done in a timely and cost-effective manner, with consideration given to quality and longer duration of equipment.
  • Supervises the maintenance and repair of all the site cranes and their supporting equipment and parts (electrical, electronic, and mechanical).
  • Ensures that the equipment is maintained in a safe and reliable working condition, in accordance with the planned preventive maintenance program and to identify and rectify repetitive problems.
  • Maintains warranties and ensures claims under warranty are filed.
  • Monitors breakdowns and ensures they are corrected promptly, and follow-up work is undertaken.
  • Ensures that repair work does not adversely affect the services to the customer.
  • Liaises with planning for the scheduling of maintenance programs and provides feedback to achieve continual improvement.
  • Recommends and develops equipment improvements and modifications.
  • Orders spare parts for the department and assists procurement in locating and pricing spare parts.
  • Supervises subcontractors' work on-site and any major projects or repairs.
  • Prepares estimates for damages/repairs and submits reports.
  • Supervises and directs the crane maintenance staff, offering direction and instruction, organizing daily schedules, ensuring safety procedures are followed, and counseling subordinates.
  • Manages the department's budget within guidelines and annual goals.
  • Provides complete and accurate reports to management.
  • Assists the Engineering Director with special projects.

Physical Working Attributes

  • Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift.
  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience at the college level.
  • Experience with electronic, hydraulic, and/or mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with PLC logic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical knowledge of maintenance and repair of quay cranes, rubber-tired gantry cranes, spreaders, in general.
  • Knowledge of general engineering principles covering mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.
  • Knowledge of terminal operations, especially the coordination of cranes with vessel activity.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of supervisory and leadership principles, with the ability to influence other team members in a positive way and lead a department of trades and/or union workers.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, National Electrical Code, and all other regulations, such as welding and electrical standards, that are required, both locally and at the state and federal level.
  • High level of planning and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, especially technical problems of a highly complex nature.
  • Ability to use computerized software systems, specifically those designed for maintenance and repair of cranes.
