Electrician: Tuesday-Saturday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Shift

The hiring rate for this position is $36.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Installation, preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of all electrical and electric-related equipment, including lighting fixtures, electrical devices, breakers, electric heat, gas detection devices, electrical panels, and kitchen appliances
• Conduct facility inspections (rounds) to ensure proper operation of equipment and systems
• Utilize tablet-based interface to generate, assign, and close out work orders through the Institute’s work order system
• Follow blueprints, specifications, and manufacturers' literature as directed
• Interact positively and professionally with campus stakeholders, including students, chefs, faculty, staff, outside vendors, and campus guests
• Communicate safety and other critical information proactively to relevant personnel
• Coordinate and conduct work to minimize disruption to classes and campus activities
• Perform preventive maintenance on all campus electrical systems and kitchen equipment
• Understand and follow all codes and safety practices required by the CIA or governing agencies
• Advise supervisor of restocking needs for supplies and perform periodic campus-wide quality inspections
• Assist outside contractors and review their work for safety and professionalism
• Respond to emergencies, special event set-ups, and breakdowns, which may occur after normal business hours, including nights and weekends
• Assist Facilities managers, supervisors, and others with general projects and maintenance work in support of trades and contractors at the Hyde Park campus
• Perform any and all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Formal trade school education in electricity or related field
• Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the electrical trades under a licensed electrician
• Valid Driver’s License

Qualifications

• Experience working in a commercial kitchen or equivalent industrial equipment environment
• Experience with low voltage controls and/or high voltage systems, up to 480V
• Completed a formal apprenticeship lasting four (4) years or equivalent experience under a master electrician
• Certifications in mechanical lift operations (scissor and boom)
• Certified in OSHA 10 or higher

Skills

• Ability to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical operating manuals
• Experience with hand tools, meters, installation and replacement of lighting fixtures and lamps, and troubleshooting electrical circuit problems
• Experience with both low and high voltage equipment and systems
• Ability to work with heavy rolls of cables, conduit, and carry ladders and other heavy supplies and equipment
• Dexterity to maneuver in small spaces
• Ability to work from heights, including ladders and near roof edges, following all safety protocols
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment under general direction
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
• Ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously
• Knowledge of control wiring and systems, alarms, HVAC wiring, and variable frequency drives (VFD)
• Experience with high voltage, emergency generators, and energy management systems
• Hands-on experience with kitchen appliances and/or other industrial equipment
• Knowledge of automotive and/or small engine repair (a plus)
• Understanding of other supporting trades such as HVAC or building controls

Working Conditions

• Available to work evenings, weekends, or in emergencies with prior notification
• Available to work overtime as required
• May be required to work different shifts or off hours temporarily based on Institute needs
• Physically demanding work, including heavy lifting up to fifty (50) pounds and climbing to heights above twenty (20) feet
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures ranging from -10°F to +120°F
• Required to work outdoors, in electrical rooms, crawl spaces, and confined areas
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to grasp and handle materials, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and taste or smell
• Must supply initial set of hand tools and meter
• Must supply initial pair of safety toe work shoe/boot
