SUMMARY

Plans, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, wires, and maintains electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste and adhere to specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches or follows diagrams/blueprints to show wiring and equipment locations.
  • Makes measurements, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit.
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, and machinery.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Connects power cables to equipment.
  • Tests continuity of circuits using testing instruments to ensure electrical compatibility and safety.
  • Observes and adjusts functioning of installed equipment/systems to detect hazards and make necessary adjustments.
  • Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
  • Communicates with Supervision, Engineering, and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic or electrical circuitry.
  • Assembles temporary wiring for repairs or testing purposes.
  • Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance.
  • Setups standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and live tests.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data.
  • Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components, recording their effects on unit performance.
  • Checks functioning of newly installed equipment under actual operating conditions.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and/or Experience: Two-year degree in Electrical Technology or related field or Journeyman Electrical License and at least two years of industrial field experience. Five years of direct work experience in an industrial setup may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Skills: Ability to interpret documents such as schematics, wiring, ladder diagrams, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Experience with electronics and solid-state devices like drives, programmable automation controllers, radio controls, and metering equipment is desirable but not mandatory. Numerical Control or CNC experience is preferred but not required.
  • Languages: Ability to read and understand safety rules, manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Effective communication skills are necessary to speak with employees and vendors.
  • Mathematics: Ability to work with mathematical concepts, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to solve practical problems.
  • Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to operate a fork truck and a man lift. Knowledge of specific software is helpful.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly walks, uses hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Occasionally sits and climbs or balances. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually loud.
