Responsibilities

• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
• Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
• Repair and install electrical devices such as receptacles, light fixtures, light switches, lighting ballast, motors, etc.
• Assist in keeping building common and electrical spaces in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.
• Accomplish work in accordance with blueprints and specifications, and national and local codes. Update as-built drawings as necessary, according to department policies.
• Attend Tool Box safety meetings and demonstrate safety competency in addition to other recommended topics such as harassment prevention, ethics, etc.
• Obtain an OSHA 10 General Industry Safety and Health standards certification.
• Extended hours or weekend overtime may be available.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of the electrical construction industry and the National Electrical Code and design are desirable but not necessary.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements

• Regularly required to walk; use fingers and hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
• Frequently required to stand.
• Occasionally required to sit.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Must be able to move/lift heavy objects, climb vertical ladders, work at heights, and be proficient in the use of common hand and power tools.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Regularly required to commute to field locations and various job sites, with the ability to navigate around job site locations.

Work Environment

• Regularly required to work outdoors, exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical and electrical parts; high, precarious places; dust, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, extended exposure to sunlight; cold and heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
