About the role

Helix Electric, Inc. is one of the most successful open-shop electrical contracting companies in the nation, with expertise in virtually every field of electrical construction—design/build services, industrial, commercial, mixed-use/multi-family developments, government, institutional, communications, and utilities projects. This position is for Electrical Trainees holding a valid state Electrical Trainee Card.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with assembly, installation, maintenance, and testing of electrical equipment and wiring systems in commercial and residential settings.
  • Prepare work areas for installation of equipment.
  • Install or assist with installation of electrical components.
  • Connect wiring and equipment as per code and job specifications.
  • Operate equipment only if trained and certified (e.g., powder-activated tools, JLG lifts).
  • Set up and operate tools such as hydraulic benders, power threaders, power pullers, and cable vacuum systems.
  • Read blueprints and electrical drawings and install as specified.
  • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances per drawings or plans.
  • Secure and lock up equipment after use.
  • Assist with complex electrical installations in a fast-paced, high-production environment.
  • Work with type NM (Romex) and/or MC wiring methods (proficiency is a plus).
  • Work from all types of ladders (step ladders up to 14', "A" frame ladders, and extension ladders) and carry/relocate a 12' step ladder independently.

Requirements

  • Valid state Electrical Trainee Card.
  • Proven track record of delivering safe projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Building Codes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves always; respirator when required).
  • Ability to work 8–10 hours per day, 40 hours per week, including overtime and night shifts as required.
  • Perform essential job functions: crawling, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, sitting, reaching.
  • Routinely lift heavy objects in excess of 50 pounds; pushing and pulling of objects required.
  • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
  • Physical work constitutes more than 70% of the job.
  • Personal weight and tools must not exceed ladder weight limits (Class 1: 250 lbs., Class 1A: 300 lbs.).
