Electrician - Apprentice

About the role

The Electrician will install electrical wiring and assemble components in control cabinets according to drawings and wiring diagrams. Responsibilities include squaring and aligning components, drilling and tapping back plates to mount contactors, circuit breakers, inverters, relays, transformers, and other devices. You will connect color-coded wires to PLCs and other devices, test and adjust electrical assemblies, cut, strip, bend, and form wire cable, and layout and install electrical conduit. The role also involves inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment.

You will work and train with electricians and mechanical technicians daily in troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing control panels, pumps, and motors. The job requires you to be on a service truck each day, and some overtime is expected.

Responsibilities

• Installs electrical wiring and assembles components in control cabinets according to drawings and wiring diagrams
• Squares and aligns components, drills and taps back plate to mount contactors, circuit breakers, inverters, relays, transformers, etc.
• Connects color-coded wires to PLC and other devices
• Tests and adjusts electrical assemblies using electrician's hand tools and test equipment
• Cuts, strips, bends, and forms wire cable
• Layouts and installs electrical conduit using hacksaw, band saw, pipe cutters, pipe threader, mechanical or hydraulic pipe bender
• Assists in the performance of factory run testing of finished product
• Inspects, repairs, installs, modifies, and maintains electrical/electronic systems, circuits, and equipment

Requirements

• May have to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty
• Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the electrical field
• Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
• Ability to work under general supervision with a certain degree of creativity and latitude
• Basic electrical knowledge and experience in the electrical trade
• Some knowledge of the NEC (National Electrical Code)
• Ability to run pipe threading machine and hand bend conduit with a conduit bender
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and drawings
• Ability to terminate and connect color-coded wiring
• Ability to perform basic VOM (Volt-Ohm-Milliammeter) checks and readings
• Willingness to troubleshoot in-house electrical equipment (welders, cranes, etc.)
• Maintains a safety-conscious attitude at all times

Physical Demand

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs

Working conditions: Warehouse environment, not climate controlled.

Schedule

Day shift, Monday through Friday, 8-hour shift. Overtime and weekends as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
