About the Role

This position works under direction and requires thorough knowledge of the electrician trade. The role involves acting as a lead worker, providing work direction and training to lower-level electricians, crews, and/or incarcerated individuals.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests, troubleshoots, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment (e.g., motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating and cooling equipment, fire and other alarm/security systems, elevators, and switches).
  • Determines and completes materials needed, provides cost estimates, and submits purchase requests.
  • Reads blueprints and/or schematic diagrams; maintains inventory of electrical supplies.
  • Maintains tool count and inventory for tools used by incarcerated individuals (e.g., completes tool control forms daily).
  • Performs other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC).
  • Ensures compliance with security regulations.
  • Installs, troubleshoots, tests, modifies, and/or maintains basic telecommunications and/or electronic data processing equipment (e.g., cable television lines, telephone lines, computer/terminal lines, printers, analog/digital phones) in an institutional setting.
  • Serves on institutional committees.
  • Attends training, seminars, and/or meetings.
  • Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement).
  • Performs other duties as assigned (e.g., snow and ice removal, grass cutting).

Requirements

  • 18 months of training or 18 months of verifiable experience in electrical work under the supervision of an experienced electrician.
  • Formal education in arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and in reading and writing common English vocabulary.
  • OR 6 months of experience as an Electrician 1 (Job Code: 52281).
  • OR equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
