Responsibilities
- Act as lead worker, providing work direction and training to lower-level electricians, crews, and/or incarcerated individuals engaged in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.
- Install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment (e.g., motors, appliances, fans, transformers, heating and cooling equipment, fire and other alarm/security systems, elevators, and switches).
- Determine and complete materials needed, prepare cost estimates, and submit purchase requests.
- Read blueprints and/or schematic diagrams; maintain inventory of electrical supplies.
- Maintain tool count and strict inventory of tools used by incarcerated individuals (e.g., complete tool control forms daily).
- Perform other maintenance and/or miscellaneous duties (e.g., semi-skilled carpentry, painting, electrical, sheet metal, HVAC).
- Ensure compliance with security regulations.
- Install, troubleshoot, test, modify, and/or maintain basic telecommunications and/or electronic data processing equipment (e.g., cable television lines, telephone lines, computer/terminal lines, printers, analog/digital phones) in an institutional setting.
- Serve on institutional committees.
- Attend training, seminars, and/or meetings.
- Perform security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement).
- Perform other duties as assigned (e.g., snow and ice removal, grass cutting).
Requirements
- 18 months of training or 18 months of verifiable experience in electrical work under the supervision of an experienced electrician, including formal education in arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and in reading and writing common English vocabulary.
- OR 6 months of experience as an Electrician 1 (Job Code 52281).
- OR equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
