Electrical Test Engineer -- Manufacturing

This position supports a new factory startup manufacturing large form-factor equipment (shipping-container size, 50+ tons, complex). As part of the core factory startup and onboarding team, you will help build operations and manufacturing staff, fit out the building, and create process flows and work instructions from the ground up.

About the role

Under limited supervision, you will design, develop, and maintain test procedures, tester hardware, and software for electronic circuit board production.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, and coach Process Technicians; monitor and improve team member turnover.
  • Identify individual and team strengths and development needs; create and validate training curriculum.
  • Establish measurable goals and objectives for individuals and teams; provide ongoing coaching and performance evaluations.
  • Review circuit board designs for testability requirements.
  • Support manufacturing with failure analysis, tester debugging, and reduction of intermittent failures and downtime.
  • Prepare recommendations for testing and documentation from product design through initial production.
  • Generate reports and analysis of test data; prepare documentation and recommendations.
  • Review test equipment designs, data, and RMA issues with customers regularly.
  • Design and direct engineering personnel in fabrication of testing and test control apparatus.
  • Coordinate engineering activities for development, procurement, installation, and calibration of test instruments and equipment.
  • Determine test conditions, sequences, and phases; direct and control operational and performance phases of tests.
  • Analyze and interpret test data; prepare technical reports for test engineering and management.
  • Develop or use computer software and hardware to conduct tests on machinery and equipment.
  • Perform technique development and maintenance, adhering to Jabil standards (ISO, QS).
  • Provide training in new procedures to production testing staff.
  • Adhere to all safety and health rules; comply with company security policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electronics or Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with medium/high-voltage electrical testing in a high-voltage manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Experience running and setting up HIPOT tests (dielectric and insulation testing); HIPOT certification preferred.
  • Ability to ensure safe test operations and identify safety risks.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for systems and equipment.
  • Experience creating documentation for test technicians and operators.
  • Comprehensive understanding of high-voltage standard practices, including safe handling of materials and equipment.
  • Ability to identify issues compromising high-voltage system integrity.
  • Demonstrated understanding of high-voltage and conductive properties, including arc flash and short-circuit hazards.
  • Completion of specialized training (e.g., OSHA, NFPA 70E, Arc Flash PPE, LOTO, high-voltage handling and grounding procedures).

Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  • Proficiency with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent walking and lifting/carrying of PCs and test equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Close vision and extensive use of computer monitor screens.

Work Environment

  • Primary workstation located in an office area with some time spent on the manufacturing floor.
  • Noise level ranges from low to moderate.

Pay

The pay range for this role is $79,400 - $142,900. Factors influencing the actual offered rate include qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity.

Levels and experience requirements:

  • Test Engineer 2: 2+ years of experience.
  • Test Engineer 3: 5+ years of experience.
  • Test Engineer 4: 7+ years of experience.
