About the role
The Electrical Test Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing electrical test systems and components for distribution transformers, reactors, and special transformers. This role involves providing technical ownership on complex projects, mentoring less experienced engineers and technicians, and solving advanced engineering challenges.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical test systems and components for distribution transformers, reactors and special transformers, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g. IEEE, IEC, CSA, NEMA).
- Conduct detailed engineering analysis to optimize cost, performance and efficiency.
- Perform and oversee failure analysis on design and production related issues, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions to improve product quality and reliability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain, to ensure seamless integration of designs into production.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers and technicians by offering technical expertise, support, and development opportunities.
- Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and ensure competitive product designs.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, promoting innovation and efficiency in design processes and methodologies.
- Maintain a safe work environment for development, troubleshooting and acceptance testing of test equipment including medium voltage level (up to 100 kV).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Master’s degree is a plus.
- 5-6 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on transformer and related products testing and/or design.
- Proven ability to perform design projects from concept to production.
- Extensive experience with electrical testing of transformers and testing equipment.
- Extensive experience and knowledge with industry standards (e.g. IEEE, IEC, CSA, NEMA) and regulatory requirements for transformers or components.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, capable of addressing complex technical challenges independently.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage stakeholders.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and priorities.
- Experience conducting failure analysis and implementing corrective actions for design and production related issues.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
- Experience with medium voltage level (up to 100 kV) testing equipment is required.
- Experience with transformer testing and design is essential.
- Experience with industry standards (e.g. IEEE, IEC, CSA, NEMA) and regulatory requirements for transformers or components is necessary.

Pay
$80,000 - $100,000 annually based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
The Electrical Test Engineer position is full-time and requires a regular, predictable schedule.
