Electrical Technician

About the role

The Electrical Technician position at SMS Group involves repairing, testing, adjusting, or installing electronic equipment such as industrial controls, transmitters, and antennas. This role is part of an industrial equipment manufacturer serving the steel industry globally.

Responsibilities

• Repair, test, adjust, or install electronic equipment
• Document daily activities
• Assemble and disassemble various components
• Perform installation, building, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of electrical components
• Work off-site when needed
• Handle stairs and lifting up to 50 lbs
• Use measuring tools such as micrometers, tape measures, and scales
• Use electrical testing equipment such as digital multimeters, ammeters, loop calibrators, and oscilloscopes
• Read and comprehend assembly prints and industrial electrical schematics
• Build cables to print (measuring, soldering/crimping, sealing, testing with multimeter)
• Test/replace 3PH AC and/or DC motors on industrial equipment
• Occasionally test/replace instrumentation at customer sites (field work)

Requirements

• Good mechanical skills in daily operations
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely
• Limited business travel to customer workshops
• Ability to learn data and modeling programs
• Self-motivated to solve problems independently
• Resourceful in accomplishing objectives and completing tasks

Qualifications

• Electrical degree or equivalent experience
