About the role

Responsible for the mechanical reliability of plant manufacturing systems to ensure production operates at maximum efficiency while maintaining employee safety and protecting company assets. This includes troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of machinery and mechanical/electrical equipment such as motors, conveyor systems, control systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, production machines, boilers, chillers, pumps, liquid fillers, packaging equipment, material handling equipment, bulk delivery equipment, and blending/mixing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical and electrical devices in operation, listening for issues, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Replace defective parts by dismantling and reassembling devices using hoists, cranes, hand, and power tools; examine condition of parts.
  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, and power tools.
  • Control downtime by performing and documenting routine preventive maintenance and monitoring operational compliance.
  • Utilize blueprints, plans, electrical drawings, and code specifications to complete job tasks, repair machinery, and set machines to specification.
  • Troubleshoot, test, and repair manufacturing equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and control systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Run tests, isolate problems, and replace worn or malfunctioning parts.
  • Perform upgrades or preventive maintenance to electrical control systems.
  • Inspect, test, repair, and install systems or equipment to assure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • Recommend actions to improve maintenance activities and operations.
  • Perform building and plumbing repair/maintenance as required.
  • Retrofit equipment with controls to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Assist in other areas and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of Plant Maintenance Technician experience (required).
  • Associate’s Degree from a technical school or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with CMMS systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems maintenance.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), VFDs, and industrial control systems.
  • Working knowledge of Class I, Div. I and Div. II electrical classifications and equipment.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at times.

Reports to the Maintenance Superintendent.
