About the role

This opportunity supports electrical engineering efforts within the Mission Critical Solution, where infrastructure is designed to protect national security and support high-consequence federal missions. Mission-critical infrastructure includes electrical power and distribution systems that must operate reliably without interruption. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Electrical Staff Engineering Technician supports the development of high-quality electrical engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. This role applies advanced technical knowledge to assist with electrical power distribution plans, lighting layouts, grounding systems, and associated electrical details using Autodesk Revit. The technician supports interdisciplinary coordination using Autodesk Navisworks and performs drawing review and markup in Bluebeam to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with design standards. Working closely with electrical engineers and project teams, this position supports both conceptual and detailed design efforts to deliver consistent, mission-aligned electrical solutions.

Responsibilities

• Functions in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction.
• Applies foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
• Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
• Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and Black & Veatch policies and procedures.
• Reviews project requirements and accurately determines the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
• Proactively applies the Black & Veatch Quality Program to deliverables and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Reviews design inputs to ensure consistency and assists in ensuring deliverables comply with specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
• Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records.
• May review the deliverables of others, define work assignments, and maintain schedules.
• Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
• May support field activities and provide technical guidance to other professionals and technicians.
• Focuses on the needs of internal clients while understanding external clients' main interests and drivers.
• Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of the latest technologies and processes.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate preferred; Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Navisworks, and Bluebeam.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
