Opportunity Summary

The Electrical Specialist is a key contributor to the seamless operation and maintenance of diverse electrical systems. The role involves inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal, and communication systems. Additional responsibilities include performing journey-level electrician tasks, conducting maintenance of 480V–13.8KV electrical systems, conducting electrical system isolations per industry standards, and providing occasional support to the Niles Peaker CT facility.

Scope of Responsibility

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal, and communication systems.
  • Perform journey-level electrician tasks, including the installation and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, and controls.
  • Maintain and test DC emergency battery backup systems.
  • Conduct maintenance of 480V–13.8KV electrical systems, including high-voltage switchyards, ensuring compliance with electrical safety practices.
  • Perform electrical system isolations per industry standards, ensuring safety and training others in electrical safety programs.
  • Work in compliance with all safety procedures and environmental permits to avoid accidents.
  • Conduct routine inspections to proactively identify and address potential electrical issues, minimizing unplanned downtime.
  • Provide training for assigned employees on equipment operations, maintenance practices, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with technicians, operators, and maintenance teams to integrate electrical systems with plant operations.
  • Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections to maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Complete and submit shift and job reports as required.
  • Participate in planned outages by providing technical support for electrical system maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
  • Respond to emergencies promptly, regardless of the time.
  • Provide occasional support to the Niles Peaker CT facility in Niles, OH, as needed.

Your work is subject to NAES Safe policies, including adherence to safety warnings and posted signs, and following all NAES safety rules and procedures. Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The work environment may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and eye protection, air masks/respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, flame-resistant clothing (FRC), hot gloves, high-voltage protective gear, and fall protection may be required. Smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility. Fitness for duty is mandatory, including a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Working Conditions

  • Environmental conditions: Exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Handling hazardous materials and entering confined spaces.

  • Other considerations: Smoking restrictions apply in and around the facility. Fitness for duty is mandatory, including a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule

The Electrical Specialist works a standard Monday to Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. This position will also occasionally necessitate extended working hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays, in response to schedules, workload demands, and plant conditions. Periodic callouts or "On call" status will also be required.

Compensation

This position offers a starting base pay rate of $42.94 per hour.

Qualifications and Technical Competencies

  • A high school or trade school diploma or the equivalent plus four years of journeyman electrician experience is desired.
  • Previous experience as a Journeyman Electrician, or relevant military background, preferably within a power plant or heavy industrial setting, showcasing a robust understanding of electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and installing a wide array of electrical equipment, including motors, generators, transformers, switches, and control systems.
  • Hands-on experience working with voltages ranging from 480V to 13.8KV and familiarity with high voltage switchyard basic electrical systems maintenance, adhering to safety practices.
  • Proven track record of executing electrical system isolations in accordance with industry standards, coupled with the ability to impart training on Electrical Safety programs.
  • Strong personal computer skills to facilitate various tasks, including documentation, communication, and data analysis.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
