Electrical Relay Testing Technician

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relays and associated equipment
  • Develop and implement protective relay settings and commissioning documentation
  • Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of relay systems
  • Support retrofit design and implementation of relay systems in substations and power plants
  • Aid in the development and execution of commissioning work plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation of testing and maintenance activities
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of power generation and transmission equipment, including relays, controls, transformers, and protection systems
  • Experience with instrumentation, process control systems, and transmitters (pressure, flow, temperature)
  • Familiarity with HART-based transmitters and PLC fundamentals (preferred)
  • Experience with 480V motor controls and substation equipment installation/commissioning
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Experience with relay testing platforms and associated software
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and field teams
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work in both field and office environments

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma required
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical testing, installation, and commissioning
  • NICET certification preferred

Work Environment

This role includes a combination of fieldwork and remote support, with regular onsite presence required to support testing, commissioning, and installation activities.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000 – $112,000 annually (based on education and experience)
