Electrical Relay Testing Technician

Key Responsibilities
- Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relays and associated equipment
- Develop and implement protective relay settings and commissioning documentation
- Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of relay systems
- Support retrofit design and implementation of relay systems in substations and power plants
- Aid in the development and execution of commissioning work plans
- Maintain accurate documentation of testing and maintenance activities
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies
Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of power generation and transmission equipment, including relays, controls, transformers, and protection systems
- Experience with instrumentation, process control systems, and transmitters (pressure, flow, temperature)
- Familiarity with HART-based transmitters and PLC fundamentals (preferred)
- Experience with 480V motor controls and substation equipment installation/commissioning
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD
- Experience with relay testing platforms and associated software
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and field teams
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work in both field and office environments
Education & Experience
- High school diploma required
- 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical testing, installation, and commissioning
- NICET certification preferred
Work Environment
This role includes a combination of fieldwork and remote support, with regular onsite presence required to support testing, commissioning, and installation activities.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $75,000 – $112,000 annually (based on education and experience)
