Role Overview

You will direct and perform the installation, repair, and preventative maintenance of various electrical systems. You will direct a crew of skilled or unskilled employees and/or provide oversight to contractors in the completion of projects for the Joint Forces Headquarters of the Indiana National Guard in Indianapolis. You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, electrical associated with heating, water, and sewage systems. You will supervise a crew of skilled workers who may be state employees or traditional guardsmen in following general instructions and standard practices of the trade. You may be deployed to assist and advise other Building Managers in the local area in electrical and related maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Obtain proper permits as required by law to carry out electrical work on construction or remodeling projects.
• Inspect and evaluate electrical and electronic equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently and safely.
• Follow and record recommended maintenance schedule for upkeeping various pieces of equipment.
• Study blueprints and schematics to determine methods, materials, and equipment needed to complete frequently occurring repair work.
• Operate heavy equipment such as: forklifts, backhoe, dump truck, front end loader, bucket truck, bulldozer, and mowing equipment.
• Inspect buildings for necessary repairs.
• Conduct monthly fire extinguisher inspections.
• Comply with appropriate safety requirements in the performance of duties.
• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees.
• Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

• Ability to fill in for other foreman trades to ensure the operation of the department.
• Thorough knowledge of the principles of electricity and electronics and standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.
• Broad knowledge of the National Electrical Codes which typically apply to the work assignment.
• Thorough knowledge of electrical devices such as controls, switches, starters, transformers, motors, and panel boards.
• Knowledge of the potential occupational hazards connected with electrical work and safety standards and practices.
• Ability to use and install various electrical tools and devices to meet facility needs.
• Ability to interpret and apply blueprints, calculations, schematics, maintenance manuals, and assembly instructions.
• Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, hydraulic towers, tunnels, and crawl spaces.
• Working knowledge of appropriate building codes, safety requirements, and IDEM/EPA rules.
• Ability to read and/or follow instructions in equipment manuals, Technical Manuals, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), drawings, etc.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
