Job Description The Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring maintenance work is safe, properly scoped, planned, coordinated, documented, and prepared for efficient execution. This role is accountable for determining how work gets done by developing detailed work plans, identifying labor and material requirements, coordinating resources, maintaining the maintenance backlog, and supporting reliability and operational excellence initiatives. The Planner plays a critical role in maximizing equipment reliability, increasing workforce productivity, reducing downtime, and supporting the Manufacturing Work System (MWS). Qualifications Responsibilities: Work Planning & PreparationReview, analyze, and plan maintenance work orders based on priorities established jointly by Operations and Maintenance.Visit job sites to validate scope, assess work requirements, and identify potential execution challenges.Develop detailed job plansEnsure all work packages are complete and ready prior to scheduling.Develop and maintain precision maintenance work packages and documentationBacklog ManagementMaintain and manage the maintenance backlog.Review and prioritize notifications and work orders with Operations Maintenance Coordinators (OMCs) and Supervisors.Maintain "Ready-to-Schedule" (RTS) work order backlogReview aging backlog items and recommend reprioritization or removal of obsolete work.Scheduling SupportParticipate in weekly planning and scheduling meetings.Support development of weekly and outage schedules.Ensure all scheduled work has define scope, available materials, equipment, permits, and all necessary documentation and drawings.Coordinate outage, shutdown, and major maintenance event planning.Material & Resource CoordinationDetermine material requirements and verify availability.Work closely with Storeroom and Purchasing departments to secure necessary materials and services.Monitor material delivery schedules and update work plans accordingly.Validate and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs).Continuous ImprovementDevelop and maintain standardized job plans and procedures.Capture maintenance history and planning improvements from completed work.Support Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) activities.Improve equipment reliability through effective planning and documentation practices.Participate in outage critiques and continuous improvement initiatives.SAP & Documentation ManagementMaintain accurate work order, equipment, and maintenance records in SAP PM.Ensure completed work orders contain quality documentation and history.Update equipment records, BOMs, procedures, and job plans as needed.Track performance metrics and support reliability reporting. Personal qualities Required Qualifications A demonstrated commitment to overall safe work practices and procedures.Must be capable of working safely in a heavy industrial environment, including frequent walking, standing, climbing ladders and platforms, working at heights, entering confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing physical tasks in varying temperatures and operating conditions.Five years or more experience in electrical, instrumentation, or industrial maintenance or a four-year technical degree with two years industry experience.Strong understanding of industrial Electrical and Instrumentation systems preferred.Previous maintenance planning, scheduling, supervisory, or reliability experience preferred.Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability best practices.Knowledge of precision, preventive and predictive maintenance strategies.Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), preferably SAP PM.Ability to read and interpret drawings, P&IDs, Schematics, Equipment Manuals and Technical documentation.Excellent organizational and communication skills. Ability to communicate (verbal and written) to all levels of the organization.Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Technically proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) Application information Billerud NA is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
